The People’s integrity Watchdog
Welcome to the Australian Democrats
The Australian Democrats are for people who believe politics can be practical, principled, and focused on what actually works.
We believe in evidence-informed policy, values-driven leadership, and respectful conversations that look for common ground rather than division. We believe Australia works best when we balance supporting one another with preserving the planet we all share.
We are proud to have been Australia’s original environmental party, and the first party to have a female parliamentary leader. Since our founding in 1977, we have stood for integrity, honesty, tolerance, compassion, and accountability in public life.
“Trust in politics has been damaged. We believe restoring it starts with transparency, thoughtful policy, and treating people with respect.”
Today, we are rebuilding with purpose and a long-term view. We are a growing community of people who care deeply about Australia’s future and want to contribute constructively to shaping it.
If that resonates with you, we’d love you to explore our policies, join the conversation, or consider becoming involved.
Thank you for visiting
Kind regards,
Leonie Green
